SMC Global USA is a fee-only wealth management firm. We believe in a holistic approach to wealth management that begins with us asking quality questions and carefully listening to your responses to gain deep insight into your most important concerns. Once we have an in-depth understanding of your current position, we help you quantify your dreams and goals. Once we have identified where you are (Point A) and where you want to be (Point B), we design a bespoke plan to get you from Point A to Point B.
Our holistic wealth management (HWM) formula is:
HWM = IM + AP + RM
We believe key to prudent investment management is maintaining broad diversification. No individual investment style works every year. We believe in diversifying between asset classes (stocks, bonds, real estate, currencies, commodities, small businesses, hedge funds, private equity, private debt, and others. We also believe in diversifying across geographic regions by including investments in international developed and emerging market countries.
We believe prudent investment management must have a provision for strategic risk management that allows for asset allocation changes when extreme circumstances warrant such changes. While some people enjoy roller coasters, it did not make sense to maintain a full allocation to equities throughout 2008, and suffer from the severe ups and downs that resulted in significant losses for the year. If an investor maintained an investment in the S&P 500 from November 1, 1996 until February 1, 2009 that investor would have lost over 1.5% (excluding dividends and expense ratios).
We believe another key to prudent investment management is keeping costs low. We carefully consider the expense ratios of investments during our research and due diligence process to determine whether an investment provides an attractive opportunity for the cost.
Under Advance Planning, we take a holistic approach and create a bespoke plan for each client. In the Advanced Planning portion of our Consultative Wealth Management process, we work with our clients to plan for:
Wealth Enhancement (tax mitigation and cash-flow planning) Wealth Transfer (transferring wealth effectively; may not be within a family) Wealth Protection (risk mitigation, legal structures, and transferring risk to insurance companies) Charitable Giving (maximizing charitable impact of gifts)
During the Relationship Management portion of our Consultative Wealth Management process, we collaborate with our clients’ existing network of professionals (Legal Counsel, Tax Counsel, and Insurance Agents) to provide “one voice” with which to communicate advice from a holistic perspective. If our clients do not have an existing network of professionals, we will provide introductions to our network of professionals.
